Coral Adoption

your impact
starts here

this is how it works

1|

QUANTITY
Fragment

You have the freedom to choose how many coral fragments (nubbins) you would like to adopt. Your decision, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in advancing our mission to restore and safeguard the natural ecology of Redang Island

2|

Tagging
number

You have the opportunity to choose the tagging number that will represent the coral fragment you select. Each number is a unique identifier, essential for recording and research purposes, ensuring your contribution leaves a lasting impact on the preservation of our coral reefs.

3|

Coral
Planting

We are honored to plant the coral fragments for you. Your sponsorship covers the ongoing costs of their care and nurturing. Your compassion and generosity make a profound difference. Thank you from the depths of our hearts

4|

Monitoring &
Maintenance

Every single coral nubbin we produce will receive meticulous monitoring, care, and measurement by our dedicated team to ensure optimal growth rates. This careful attention is not only for their well-being but also for valuable record-keeping and research purposes.

Coral
Restoration

Once the coral nubbins have matured, they will be carefully transplanted to the affected areas, breathing new life into damaged marine ecosystems. These delicate fragments typically reach maturity in about 5-6 months, depending on the species. Your support will play a crucial role in this beautiful transformation, helping to restore and rejuvenate our precious oceans

A restored reef begins here, with just one small coral nubbin. Your adoption will nurture and grow this coral until it’s ready to merge with other nubbins and be returned to the ocean.

The meticulous cleaning and maintenance required throughout this process incur significant costs. Regular, careful attention is crucial until each nubbin is strong enough for transplantation.

Questions?

WHAT’S A MICRO-FRAGMENT?

A micro-fragment is what we call a small section of coral that we have cut. They average about half an inch in size. We cut up a selected coral to a specific size for optimal growth, then it’s typically attached to a coral plug

HOW FAST DO THEY GROW?

It’s depend on the species, water quality, maintenance and monitoring, but we have been seeing growth rates of fragments 2cm to 4cm in as little as eight to twelve months.

WHAT SPECIES OF CORAL ARE THEY?

We currently work with two main species of coral: Staghorn Coral, and Cauliflower Coral and in the future we will add some other species in our list

WHERE WILL IT BE PLANTED?

We have a number of outplant sites located on the Redang Island. You’ll be able to see these when you became one of our preservation team.

WHAT'S A CORAL ADOPTION

Coral adoption typically refers to a our program where individuals, organizations, or businesses can support coral reef conservation and preservation efforts by “adopting” a coral or a section of a coral reef (nursery table).

In a coral adoption program, donors may receive various benefits such as updates on the health and growth of the adopted coral, certificates of adoption, or even opportunities to participate in reef restoration activities like coral planting or monitoring expeditions.

The funds raised through coral adoption programs are often used for activities such as habitat restoration, community outreach and education, and marine conservation efforts aimed at preserving these vital ecosystems and the diverse marine life they support.
